Vocational Assessment Services

In most cases, clients work with me on a two-day assessment. The assessment process consists of:

  • Interviews about personal background and specific jobs held

  • Brief testing of vocational aptitudes and, if relevant, capabilities for retraining

  • Questionnaires that develop objective psychometric profiles in the areas of vocational interests and preferences, pain management potential (if applicable), perceptions of functional restrictions, and potential impacts of emotional/personality factors

  • Further questionnaires looking into more personalized aspects of employment background

I perform all interviewing, questionnaire administration, and testing procedures myself. I do not employ psychological assistants or psychometrists. I tailor my selection of specific assessment procedures to each client’s individual needs, work and educational background, stamina, pain tolerances, etc.

Most assessments are conducted from 9:00 a.m. To 4:30 p.m., with rest breaks and lunch breaks planned according to the client’s needs. Although there may be some brief measures of hand-eye coordination, clients are not asked to complete any physical tasks like stair-climbing, reaching, carrying, etc. Most of the questionnaire work is completed using pencil-and-paper; clients can set their own pace. It is important that clients continue to take all their usual medications, and to bring their eyeglasses and hearing aids if they use them at home or at work.

I currently see clients in Calgary at Mount Royal Village, and in Edmonton at the Ritchie Mill Office Complex.
